About GW Racing
SINCE 1987
After completing his apprenticeship, Gavin joined the Nampak Kliprivier Workshop in 1987 where he maintained a large fleet of both Petrol and Diesel Commercial Vehicles. Gavin always dreamt of having his own workshop where he can personally work on clients commercial and private vehicles.
In 1994 Gavin proudly opened GW Racing in Alrode South, Gauteng. The company operates from the same premises 27 years later.
Gavin was a very keen and successful drag racer from 1991 until 2018, when he took a break from racing after achieving his goal of being the first and only door slammer dragster to achieve a six second run in Africa at that time.

Fully Equipped Workshop
GW Racing has a fully equipped workshop including 4 x Two-Poster Heavy Duty Lifts, a Low-Level Lift, a Dyno with full Diagnostic Equipment, a Lathe machine as well as Milling Machines. All work is performed by Gavin who is assisted by Muscar, who is also a fully qualified mechanic.
v6 / v8 Specialists
GW Racing are specialists in building of V6 and V8 engines for both street and race cars. What Gavin learnt on the track he builds into all his engines, giving reliable economic power when required.
Day To Day Services
GW Racing do day to day services and repairs on all light commercial and private vehicles such as Toyota, Nissan, BMW, Volkswagen, Ford, Chevrolet and other popular makes.
Rebuilds & Repairs Of Collectables
GW Racing has been entrusted to rebuild, modify, repair and service many Collectable Classic and Muscle cars over the years. This includes popular models such as Corvettes, Camaros, Bel-Airs, Shelby Mustangs, Chargers, Chev/ Holden Lumina SS, Fairlane’s, BMW E30 M3, BMW 2002 Turbo and many more.
Championship Winning Engines
Gavin has built championship winning engines for the Wesbank Modified V8’s for Brandon Auby, Jimmy Auby, Franco Di Matteo and Des Gudzeit. GW Racing specialise in building race engines for: V8 super cars, Super Saloons, Historics, Off Road LS Engines, Cobras and many more.

- 1993 – Gavin Wilkins WINS the Drag Racer of The Year Award.
- 1993 – Gavin Wilkins Sets WORLD RECORD for Normally Aspirated V6 ESSEX Capri.
- 1993 – Gavin Wilkins WINS the Drag Racer of The Year Award.
- 2002 – Gavin Wilkins sets RECORD in a Street Sierra XR8 Fastest V8 over a standing km: 298kph.
- 2005 – Gavin Wilkins WINS 1st in Regional and 3rd in National Drag Racing Championship.
- 2006 – Gavin Wilkins WINS 1st in Regional and 2nd in National Drag Racing Championship.
- 2007 – Gavin Wilkins WINS 1st in Regional and 2nd in National Drag Racing Championship.
- 2008 – Gavin Wilkins WINS 1st In Regional and 2nd in National Drag Racing Championship
- 2012 – Gavin Wilkins WINS the National and the Regional Championships of the Year in Drag Racing.
- 2013 – Gavin Wilkins WINS the National and the Regional Championships of the Year in Drag Racing.
- 2014 – Gavin Wilkins WINS the National and the Regional Championships of the Year in Drag Racing.
- 2015 – Gavin Wilkins sets new RECORDS in Ford Mustang for a top speed of 303.58 km/h at a time of 7.698 seconds.
- 2015 – Shaun Wilkins sets RECORD in Ford Capri at a time of 11.766 seconds.
- 2015 – Gavin Wilkins WINS the National Championship of the Year in Drag Racing.
- 2017 - Gavin Receives PROTEA COLOURS for Drag Racing from Motorsport South Africa.
- 2018 – Gavin Wilkins along with his team (Steve Clark, Jack Kaplan, James Ballard & Garth Jacobs) does a 6.993 Second Pass at Tarlton International Raceway.
